The SITP is an employment and training program supporting Indigenous adults to become tennis coaches and then employing them to teach local community kids how to play tennis. The children we teach warm-up with Traditional Indigenous Games to keep them connected to culture- they learn while at play.

At the moment our programs are free but the scope of our funding doesn’t allow us to attend the national coaching conference to network with other professional coaches, to get better ideas on how to teach our kids more effectively and to let the general tennis coaching community know who and what we are.

Please find attached an invitation to our SITP fundraiser to be held on Sunday 11 December 2011 from 11am to 5pm.

The day will include a guided walk around the island from an Aboriginal perspective, entertainment, food and drink and an auction for sporting and other memorabilia including some select items of artwork.

Money raised from ticket sales and the auction will be spent on getting our two coaches down to the National Tennis Coaches Conference in Melbourne in mid January 2012 and the rest will go to inviting a bunch of children to come watch the Sydney Medibank Open also in January 2012.

Handover of the tennis courts at Alexandria, Beaconsfield and Turruwul Park, Rosebery to City Community Tennis took place on Thursday the 15th of September. Tennis courts are now available for bookings one month in advance and players can access the courts using a unique Personal Identification Number (PIN) entered at the keypads to each court. A player PIN will also activate the lights, so feel free to book anytime… Too easy!
